I confirmed this in Philadelphia when I spoke to Scott Bradley, the B's Director of Player Personnel, but the Bruins do NOT give up their fifth-round selection to the Buffalo Sabres as part of the Daniel Paille trade as I previously reported here.
The conditional pick to Buffalo was Boston's fourth-rounder, contingent on Paille hitting 16 goals (he scored nine) this season. Because of the language (and a conditional pick) my assumption was that the pick would drop a round because he didn't reach the performance objective. Bad assumption on my part.
So, as things stand right now, this is what the Bruins are looking at:
1st round
2nd overall (Toronto)
17th overall (Boston)*
*Will drop to 27 if the Bruins advance to ECF (and follow the same formula in each subsequent round per change to NHL draft rules in 2007)
2nd round
32nd overall (Toronto)
47th overall (Boston)
3rd round
No pick- Buffalo
4th round
97th overall (Carolina)- acquired in Aaron Ward deal
No Boston pick- to Anaheim for Steven Kampfer
5th round
137th overall (Boston)
6th round
167th overall
7th round
197th overall
